On 6th October 2024, Honorary Consul of the Philippines to Queensland, Atty. Sheryll Gabutero, visited Stanthorpe to meet and greet the Filipino community of greater Western Queensland. The event was organised by Heidi Davie President of the FAGBA (Filipino-Australian Granite Belt Association) and highlighted the Consulate’s commitment to staying connected with Filipinos across the region.
Consul Gabutero was accompanied by Gina Luck (President of the Queensland Filipino-Australian Arts Association) and Reena Gabutero-Johnson (Vice-President of the Association). During the gathering, the Consul shared valuable information about the consular services offered by her office and also Embassy mobile missions that facilitate Filipino citizenship and passport renewals. Discussions also centered on exciting upcoming community events and potential collaborations between the Philippine Consulate and FAGBA to further strengthen ties and support for Filipinos in the region.
Also in attendance and providing a speech was Councilor Morweena Harslett of Southern Downs Regional Council advising of her portfolio for ‘Inspired Communities’ which looks after youth projects, education, art galleries, libraries, events and cultural affairs.
A special thanks to Roberto Garcia of FABICCQ, Agnes Cabe of FILCA, and Mena Edmonstone, whose presence and support helped make the event even more meaningful for our Western Queensland Filipino community.
