The event was organised by Heidi Davie President of the FAGBA (Filipino-Australian Granite Belt Association) and highlighted the Consulate’s commitment to staying connected with Filipinos across the region. This production highlights the heartfelt stories of Filipino migrants, their struggles, and triumphs abroad. The musical revolves around three “balikbayans” (Filipinos returning home) who reconnect with old friends at a local “sari-sari” store, a familiar community hub in the Philippines. Through shared conversations, music, and laughter, the balikbayans reflect on their experiences in the diaspora, fostering a powerful sense of belonging. Among the actors was Honorary Consular Officer of the Philippines Consulate Office, Gemma Cruz Goutos. Balikbayan Blues celebrated not only Filipino culture but also the rich contributions of the Filipino-Australian community in the arts. On 7th September 2024, Honorary Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero attended the Filipino Australian Foundation of Queensland Inc. (FAFQ) Charity Queen event held at SunPAC, Brisbane. This was the third Charity Queen Coronation Night and Gala Dinner, a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting the advocacies of the pageant candidates. The highlight of the evening was the coronation of Ms. Ivy Hodder as FAFQ Charity Queen Australia 2024, whose advocacy focuses on providing grant-in-aid scholarships for graduating students in Iligan City, Philippines. The event gathered members of the Filipino-Australian community and local dignitaries, showcasing cultural pride and a spirit of charity.

Spring Festival 2024, held on 7th September at Robelle Domain Parklands (The Circle). The event celebrated the vibrant American Rock and Roll culture of the ’50s and ’60s, creating an exciting atmosphere filled with nostalgia and rhythm! Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero delivered a speech, highlighting the importance of multiculturalism and unity. Philippine Consulate Queensland Outreach Mission in Goondiwindi: Led by Philippine Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero, the Consulate team traveled 4 hours from Roma to engage with the Filipino community in Goondiwindi. Consul Gabutero was joined by Honorary Consul staff Jesusa Say Pamittan Limpin and Friends of the Consulate Nikki Domingo, Rob Wenceslao, Gilbert Ordiales, Rohit Sharma, and Bob Alipalo, alongside Queensland Filipino Arts Association Australia QFAAA (Queensland Filipino-Australian Arts Association, Inc.) President Gina Luck, Vice President Reena Gabutero-Johnson, and Secretary Josyl Miranda. The event, hosted by the local Filipino community at the Goondiwindi Bowls Club, began with the Philippine national anthem sung by Novah Lee Rapacon, followed by a welcome speech from community representative Leonardo Gallawan Nonol (Botchok). Consul Gabutero delivered a keynote address discussing dual citizenship, consular services, and future community participation in Greater Southeast Queensland. The Consulate also provided vital notarial services during the event. The day concluded with a fun-filled afternoon of lawn bowls and karaoke, further strengthening the bond between the Consulate and the Goondiwindi Filipino community.

Philippine Consulate Queensland Outreach Mission in Roma: Philippine Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero led a dedicated team on a 5.5-hour journey from Brisbane to Roma, accompanied by Honorary Consul staff Jesusa Say Pamittan Limpin and Friends of the Consulate Nikki Domingo, Rob Wenceslao, Gilbert Ordiales, Rohit Sharma, and Bob Alipalo. Queensland Filipino Excellence Awards Inc.- QFEA (QFAAA) President Gina Luck, Vice President Reena Gabutero-Johnson, and Secretary Josyl Miranda also joined the mission. Hosted by the Roma Filipino community, the event featured a special message from Warrego Member of Parliament Ann Leahy, speeches from Mayor of Roma Wendy Taylor and Deputy Mayor Cameron O’Neil, and a keynote address by Consul Gabutero. The program was organized with the support of Roma Filipino Community President Tita Star Abriol, former President John Pamogas “Edwin” , and was expertly MC’d by Jam Abella, with Marichris Barcamonte, Community Support Officer, also playing a key role. Discussions highlighted multiculturalism and the contributions of the Filipino community to livestock, agriculture, and healthcare. The evening concluded with a lechon dinner and cake celebration, strengthening community ties. The following morning, Tita Star Abriol hosted a breakfast at her local Asian grocery store, followed by a tour of the largest cattle sales yard in Australia to showcase the region’s cattle trade, comparing it to practices in the Philippines.

Philippine Consulate Queensland Outreach Mission in Dalby: Led by Philippine Consul Atty. Accompanied by Queensland Filipino Arts Association Australia (QFAAA) President Gina Luck, Vice President Reena Gabutero-Johnson, and Secretary Josyl Miranda, the mission addressed vital topics such as Filipino workers’ rights, pension access in the Philippines, dual citizenship, and the Balikbayan visa. The event featured a heartfelt rendition of the Philippine national anthem by Malcolm Sacramento, welcome remarks from DFACAI President Xeino Jest Sacramento, and a keynote address from Consul Sheryll Gabutero. Philippine Consulate Queensland Outreach Mission in Toowoomba: Led by Philippine Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero, this historic outreach, the first in 15 years, was joined by Honorary Consul staff Jesusa Say Pamittan Limpin, Friends of the Consulate Nikki Domingo, Rob Wenceslao, Gilbert Ordiales , Rohit Sharma, and Bob Alipalo, along with Queensland Filipino Arts Association Australia (QFAAA) President Gina Luck, Vice President Reena Gabutero-Johnson, and Secretary Josyl Miranda. Held at the Micah Center in Toowoomba, the event was organized by FABICCQ President Robert Garcia ,Media officer Ricker Feril, Anecito Dumat (DDFACI President) and FILCCA President Agnes P. Cabe, with the support of Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Geoff Mcdonald and Councillor Trevor Manteufel. During the meet and greet, the Consulate provided crucial mobile consular services, including notarial and advisory assistance for nationals and Filipino workers. Consul Gabutero delivered a keynote speech, followed by an engaging Q&A session that focused on important issues, including Overseas Filipino Workers’ contracts and the pressing concern of domestic violence in the community. 28 August 2024 – In celebration of Queensland Multicultural month, David Crisafulli (Leader of Opposition, Shadow Minister for Tourism and Member for Broadwater) and John-Paul Langbroek (Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Member for Surfers Paradise) invited Honorary Consul Sheryll Gabutero of Philippine Consulate to recognize various multicultural community groups in Queensland including Gold Coast Filipino Australian Performing Arts Ensemble (headed by President Shirley Nields) and Filipino Australian Community Gold Coast (headed by President Louie Caluag) at Queensland Parliament House. In celebration of Queensland Multicultural month, Gold Coast Filipino Australia Performing Arts Ensemble (GCFAPAE) presented for the second year, a multicultural festival which featured a variety of cultural performances, traditional music, dance and delicious Philippine cuisine at Robina Auditorium at the Gold Coast. The event was hosted by the President of GCFAPE, Shirley Nield in collaboration with Ilocano Ti Australia group and its President, Chris Ramos, with guest speakers, Glenn Barry (First Nations representative for the Gamilaraay group), Philippine Consul Sheryll Gabutero, former Councilor and running for the seat of Burleigh, Hermann Voster and Member for Surfers Paradise/Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism and representing Leader of Opposition David Crisafulli, John-Paul Langbroek. In support of multicultural affairs and also in attendance was Jake Coates of Thriving Multicultural Communities (TMC) and Ree Ali of Multicultural Communities Council. Dance performances included multiple Filipino dancing groups, Kizuna Taiko, Bolivia Marka and Australian Chinese Women’s Federation Inc to name a few.

11 August 2024 – “Parokya Ni Edgar” concert held at Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct was a lively and nostalgic event that brought together fans of the iconic Filipino band. Known for their unique blend of rock, humor, and heartfelt lyrics, Parokya Ni Edgar has been a staple in the Filipino music scene for over two decades. The event, produced by FAST events, was well-attended, reflecting the strong support from the Filipino community and music lovers in Queensland.  The band was headed by Chito Miranda delivering a performance that resonated with both nostalgia and current relevance. Logan Mayor, Jon Raven and Philippine Consul, Sheryll Gabutero in support of the Filipino and multicultural community made an appearance to greet the stars.  

On 11 August 2024 – The “Formally Ever After” event held in Beenleigh was a special gown and suit-raising initiative organised by Tammy Robinson. This event was part of her ongoing project, “Formally Ever After,” which aims to provide free formal wear to students who may not otherwise be able to afford attire for their school formals. The fashion and high tea took place at Your Lifestyle Centre and served as a platform for collecting donations of gowns and suits, which would be distributed to students across Queensland. Supporters to the event included the Filipino community who modeled many of the clothes on display, Lyn Shadbolt and Kate Wakeling (CEO) of Bendigo Community Bank and Philippine Consul Sheryll Gabutero. 

On 9 August 2024 – Bendigo Bank Golf Day held at Carbrook Golf Course, Logan, was a charitable event known as the “Go Pink Charity Golf Day.” Organized by Lions@Springwood in collaboration with Bendigo Bank, the event aimed to raise funds for breast cancer research. The format of the day was a 4-person Ambrose, featuring activities such as a chance to win a car for a hole-in-one, longest drive competitions, and raffles. Consul Sheryll Gabutero, invited by Bendigo Community Bank (Logan Community Financial Services) CEO Kate Wakeling, participated in the event. Consul Gabutero, along with Jason Luckhardt (Chairman of Bendigo Community Bank), Michael Wardlaw (Vice-Chairman & Director of Bendigo Community Bank), and Teisa Lanivia of Trinity York Legal, achieved a respectable result with a nett score of 60 1/4, demonstrating strong teamwork and golfing skill throughout the day.

3 August 2024 – Gigi Live Concert was held at the Chandler Theatre, Brisbane and part of Gigi De Lana’s Australian tour titled “Rated Gigi” produced by AMC events in Queensland. Gigi De Lana, a Filipino singer and actress, has gained international recognition through her appearances on “Popstar Kids” and “Sugarpop.” Her concert in Brisbane was one of several stops on her Australian tour, which included performances in cities of Sydney and Perth. The concert featured a mix of pop and rock music, highlighting Gigi’s and her band’s powerful vocals and the energetic performances. ​

27 July 2024 – Consul Sheryll Gabutero attended in support of Couples For Christ (CFC) Queensland Australia Christmas in July charitable event, ‘Love in Action’, a program designed to embody the values of compassion and service by supporting various charitable causes and community outreach efforts including but not limited to, feeding programs, support for the homeless, education and scholarships, and disaster relief. The event was sponsored by local businesses and attendees to the dinner, raising over $10,000.00 in a single night. Amongst the organisers included Arnold Cortez and Dr. Leah Dungca-Cortez, Carmelino and Lucille Satinitigan, Bobby and Maryanne Bautista, Dita Gagawanan, Divine and Edsel Varias amongst others. 

27 July 2024 – On invitation by the Chairwoman, Gale Mason-Carroll of Triskelion International Queensland Council Australia Inc the Philippine Consul of Queensland, Sheryll Gabutero, attended the National Tree Planting Day organized by Ipswich City Council and participated in planting over 1,600 native plants along Bundamba Creek in Ipswich. Consul Sheryll had the pleasure of meeting one of the founding fathers of Triskelion, Atty. Talek Pablo from the Philippines and was delighted to reconnect with Mayor of Ipswich, Teresa Harding, President of PAMA, Jomar Nieva and Shah Satnam Ji Green Welfare Force in planting native trees to restore waterways and increase resilience against environmental challenges in the area.

21 July 2024 – Global Fair Multicultural Business and Art Expo held over 2 days of the 20th and 21st  July 2024 at Alexandra Hills Hotel, Alexandra Hills, showcased multiple business stalls from various multicultural communities to promote entrepreneurship and economic development through business and art. An initiative of the President of Global Fair, Agnes Whiten AM, and organised by Judith Guillergan, more than 20 exhibitors displayed their products, services and artworks to the public. A speech on entrepreneurship and trade between Queensland and Philippines was delivered by Philippine Consul Sheryll Gabutero. 

20 July 2024 – ANCOP, a global non-profit organisation founded by Couples for Christ (CFC) held a ‘Party through the Decades’ concert at St James Parish Hall, Coorparoo, to raise funds for scholarships in secondary schools in the Philippines, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. The concert included live bands, soloists and pianists of ANCOP taking the audience through several decades of musicality. Consul Sheryll Gabutero attended the concert in support of their cause. 12 JULY 2024 – The University of Queensland (UQ) hosted the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia Awards Ceremony on July 12, 2024. This event celebrated the achievements of international scholars who have been studying in Australia under the Australia Awards program. The ceremony highlighted the contributions of these scholars to their home countries and recognized their academic accomplishments at UQ. Scholars came from a range of countries mostly from the Asia Pacific with 4 PhD students from the Philippines all sponsored by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and handpicked by the Philippine government to enhance agricultural practices in the Philippines. Consul Sheryll Gabutero delivered a congratulatory speech and focused on engagement between Queensland and the Philippines.

30 June 2024 – The Philippine Grand Fiesta held at the Victoria Markets in Melbourne, was the first Philippine fiesta in Victoria Markets attended by thousands of Filipino community members and organised by the Filipino Australian Community Services (FACSI) in collaboration with various community groups and partners. The fiesta was a lively and colorful celebration of Filipino culture, showcasing the rich heritage of the Philippines through various activities and attractions. Attendees enjoyed traditional Filipino food, music, dance performances, and cultural displays. The event aimed to bring together the Filipino community and offer a unique cultural experience to the broader Melbourne audience. Honorary Consul for the Philippines in Queensland, Sheryll Gabutero was welcomed by former Honorary Consul-General for Victoria, Raul Hernandez and Raine Laysico of Philippine Times.

14 June 2024 – On invitation from Pinky Singh OAM, the Philippine Consulate and friends of the Consulate was invited to the Qld Multicultural Community Charitable Event held at Queensland Parliament house. This event brought together leaders, community members, and organizations to promote inclusivity, unity, and cross-cultural understanding within the state. David Crisafulli, the Leader of the Opposition, was among the key attendees, emphasizing the importance of multiculturalism in Queensland’s social fabric. In attendance were President of Filipino Brisbane Australia Society (FABs) Dixie Morante and President of Ilocano Ti Australia Chris Ramos. 

29 June 2024 – Ipswich City Council celebrates the Philippines event at Ipswich City Council’s Administration Building at Nicholas Street, Ipswich with Philippine Rondalla Performing Arts Ensemble, Hiraya Dance Troupe and Philippines-Australia Multicultural Association Inc (PAMA). Special remarks were given by Councilor Marnie Doyle on behalf of Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding, Philippine Honorary Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero, Councillor Pye Augustine and Councilor Jim Madden. At the celebration PAMA performed a poem, children’s duet dance, performance by saxophonist and winner of Queensland Filipino Excellence Awards 2024 (for the category of Youth) Louie Galman, traditional guitar by Rondalla group, and dance performances from Hiraya Dance Troupe.

29 June 2024 – Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea (AWBT) to raise funds for Cancer Council Australia organized and hosted by Queensland Filipino Excellence Awards (QFEA) 2024 Nominee, Esther Wilson. Esther Wilson has been hosting morning teas to fundraise for Cancer Council Australia for 10 years in a row and was recently nominated for QFEA 2024 awards in community service due to her unwavering dedication in raising awareness and fundraising for breast cancer research. The morning tea gathered many friends of the Filipino community and was also attended by Honorary Consul Sheryll Gabutero dedicating a speech to Esther Wilson’s tireless work and commitment to making a difference.

25 June 2024 – Philippine Embassy of Canberra celebration of 126th Philippine Independence Day Reception at National Ballroom, Hotel Realm, Canberra hosted by Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to Australia, Ma. Hellen De La Vega. The event was graced by Special Minister of State and Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell delivering keynote remarks regarding trade and tourism relations between Australia and the Philippines and Mr. David Smith MP delivering remarks of shared history and deep bonds of friendship of the Philippines and Australia including the second world war. The Independence Day reception was attended by foreign dignitaries, heads of multinational companies and federal and state politicians and organizations along with Philippine Consular officers from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

16 June 2024 – Philippine Festival in celebration of Philippine Independence day at Broadwater Parklands, Marine Parade, Southport on the Gold Coast presented by Filipino-Australian Community Gold Coast Inc and organized by the President of the organization, Mary Ann Boehme. Celebration of Filipino culture, with a vibrant array of activities including a mix of traditional Filipino music, dance performances by Fil-Oz dance group and live music by Diamante Band and culinary delights amongst others. The event also included cultural exhibits, arts and craft stalls and activities for families. The day served as a significant event for the Gold Coast Filipino community, with an inspirational speech delivered by Philippine Honorary Consul to Queensland, Sheryll Gabutero alongside State politicians, Member for Surfers Paradise, John-Paul Langbroek (representing Leader of Opposition, David Crisafulli) and Member for Bonney, Sam O’Connor. Also present were several Filipino community leaders including Dixie Morante, President of Filipino Australian Brisbane Society (FABS), Chris Ramos, President of Ilocano Ti Australia Inc, Honey Binny, President of Barrio Fiesta Brisbane, Rafael Toda, President of Australia Philippines Business Council (APBC) and Connie Da Cunha, President of Chamber of Commerce Industry Australia Philippines (CCIAP).

9 June 2024 – Annual Barrio Fiesta Brisbane Inc celebrating 126 years of Philippine Independence and celebrating cultural diversity at Rocklea showgrounds, Brisbane. Barrio Fiesta Brisbane’s theme for Philippine Independence day was ‘Mahal Kita Pilipinas’ (we love the Philippines). Barrio Fiesta’s program included many cultural performing artists ranging from traditional and modern dance, live bands, variety shows and many food stalls from local Filipino restaurants. The event was  organised by the President of Barrio Fiesta Brisbane, Honey Binny and was attended by the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Adrian Schrinner and his wife, Mayoress Nina Schrinner, Leader of Opposition and Member of Parliament for Broadwater, David Crisafulli and on behalf of Honorary Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero in her absence, Honorary Consular Officer, Roem Anne Andea who delivered a speech on the Consul’s behalf. Many Filipino community leaders and friends of the Filipino community converged to celebrate independence day.

8 June 2024 – Pilipino Australian Social Club Inc (PASOC) celebration of Philippine Independence day with a dinner dance at Newnham Hotel, Upper Mount Gravatt. The event showcased performances of traditional folk dance, singing as well as the live band of Fire and Rain. PASOC also also inducted new committee officers, was graced by Logan Councillor Teresa Lane of Division 2 and Reena Johnson who delivered a speech on behalf of Honorary Consul Atty. Sheryll Gabutero in celebration of Philippine Independence day.

Presented by the University of Queensland’s Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect in collaboration with the National Unity Government (NUG) of Myanmar Australia. Her Excellency Daw Zin Mar Aung, was joined by Mr Peter Varghese AO, Chancellor of the University of Queensland for a thought-provoking discussion around the challenges faced by Myanmar’s opposition government in efforts to promote democracy, protect human rights and address humanitarian crises.
